The only reason I see to use the actual FB app is to sync contacts. I don't have that many FB contacts, and most are already Google contacts, so I just uninstalled FB and use the browser.
I found it really weird that the update was installed 2 days ago (3 maybe?) but last night out of nowhere, the news feed changed to what is, we assume, the new 1.6 version. Threw me for a loop. My problem is that it's only on the news feed though. Profiles and redirects (after clicking on notification) still use the old scheme. It's like.. "hey we changed it for you. Hope you like it! Oh btw, it's only a halfway upgrade."
My opinion is to scrap it and make an all new 2.0 specially designed for Android. It would be worth the wait.
It's not sending you to the mobile site; you are still in the app.. it's just tweaked the U! slightly on the News Feed page. You can also choose what you want to see by long pressing the top right hand corner in News Feed view and choose "Top News" or "Most Recent" etc
