Facebook app issues

I've been hearing bad things about the updated version of the app, except I wouldn't know, because whenever I try, it says 'installation failed.' Any ideas why that is?

Also, as of Friday, my notifications will not refresh. I get: 'Cannot retrieve notifcations. [Parser error. Unexpected '_' at position 64) Any ideas there?

And if not, what's the best Facebook app for Android apart from the half assed official one?

You could try deleting Facebook. The part installed on the ROM won't delete, but any other updates on it will. After trying that, give the latest update another shot. If you can't find a workaround, there's always the app called "Bloo"

Mine hasn't been working since August 25th, but I just got through installing (over the top of existing app) the latest and greatest FB app from the market and all is working now. I don't like the layout, but I'll get use to it.

I am getting the exact same failure on notifications. "Parser error 601 at position 64" I have removed the Facebook widget from my screen, forced the application closed, cleared all data and removed my account from the sync menu. I have turned the phone off and on. I have then added the account back to the sync menu signed on and added the widget. Everything works except "Notifications" and "News". I have done this several times. I just installed "My Backup Pro" in preparation of wiping the phone. Oh yes, Facebook 1.2 and Facebook for HTC Sense 1.0 are both grayed out in the "Manage Applications" and I can't uninstall. I think that is what wiping the phone will solve. Maybe. I have Android 2.2 on my Incredible and have the Droid "bullet" on startup Anybody have any other suggestions?

I just now registered for this site hoping to get the same solution to the "Parser error 601 at position 64" issue. I have the motorola droid. I am going to sit right here until someone posts the fix!

I use "black facebook"

Has a black and red interface and works flawlessly. There is also a blue version that is blue and black. Haven't heard of others with this app

I had the same problem with Facebook notifications after OTA 2.2 until today. I had been reinstalling Facebook app from "Market". Instead I went to Facebook via the Internet on my Droid Inc. and downloaded the Facebook Mobil application from the bottom of the page. It installed perfectly and I like the new format a lot.

"Well, I took your advice and connected to Facebook from the Internet. I then clicked on download Facebook for Android device. It replaced the existing Facebook app and everything seems to be working well and the format of Facebook is even better. Thanks!"
