Help Facebook: how do I stop certain notifications?

I only have a few notifications turned on in the settings, things like when people comment on my posts and other direct actions like that. Yet I am still getting notifications about people changing their status or profile picture, or uploading photos, etc.

I don't see an option specifically to stop these. How do I turn them off?

....and that, sadly, is Facebook, all powerful. I don't believe there is a setting to shut down those notifications. But someone please correct me if I'm wrong...

Get rid of the FaceFook app HOG, and use m.facebook.com from your browser.
