Facebook messages and SMS

Atmanix

I have a fairly simple question, and probably a stupid question, but I just want to make sure. My wife is really into the messenger on Facebook, and has been using it on her G1. We have the data (email/web) package, and 400 text messages.

I know the instant messengers like Yahoo, AIM, MSN, etc use up those text messages, but what about web based messengers like Facebook? Do those count towards our 400 limit?

Thank you in advance

To be clear, this whole IM/SMS thing has to do with the native IM Application. That native app uses SMS protocols for AIM, MSN, and Yahoo! but NOT for Gtalk.

If you download Meebo or Palringo (which can sign you into MSN, Yahoo!, AIM, Gtalk, and more) they ONLY use data.

Any chat that is browser based would also only use data. I'm not even sure Android would allow a website to use the SMS functions on your phone without your permission. I doubt it highly.

Again, the catch is with the native app, not with IMs in general. I can't guarantee that there isn't some IM app out there that uses SMS protocols, but if you get it from the Official Market, it will tell you that it "uses services that cost you money" on that warning screen telling you what the app wants access to on your phone before you download it.

hope that helps.

If she is using through mobile phone than I must say that yes there will be always limitation. Even if you will send message from your computer to any offline friends and to his/her mobile than there is a limitation of words as well.

So yes there is some restriction.

I believe the TMobile My Account application will track your SMSs as well as your minutes. I can't swear to it since the G1 is my wife's, not mine, but IIRC it does.
