Facebook Messenger App - question about contacts

I recently downloaded the standalone Facebook Messenger app on my Samsung phone. Can people in my phone's contact list who also have me in their phonebook see that I am using the FB Messenger App, even if I am not friends with them on FB? Kinda like how WhatsApp automatically shows you which contacts saved in your phonebook use WhatsApp (which I find annoying by the way...I know you can block people on WhatsApp, but still...).

I've tried searching for a clear answer to my question in the Facebook Help Community, to no avail, so I thought I would ask here. Thanks in advance!

As far as I can see, no. I have a number of people on my contact list who aren't my friends on Facebook, and I can't tell if they're using the app or not.
