Root Facory reset question(s)

Have the Razr Maxx less than a week. Finally rooted & started removing apps, changing settings, tried to get wireless tether & barnacle to work (unsuccessful). Apparently I disabled/removed/installed the wrong thing along the way, & now I lost all data connectivity: -4G, -3G, -1x = no internet = no email. Went over all settings, soft reset, no luck. Called Verizon, unable to help. I already backed up apps + data on Titanium, and unable to use Rom Manager for anything, Razr not supported.

I'm about to do a factory reset, but need to know:
1) do I have to un-root first?
2) do I remove SIM card b4 reset?
3) is reactivation required after reset?
4) is there a specific sequence of actions to do this reset?

A factory reset will remove all data from the phone. I don't think it'll restore whatever it was that you removed when you were removing apps. You don't have to remove SIM or SD card.

I did the reset. But very confused. Said it would wipe all data, etc. When it rebooted itself after the reset it immediately connected to my wi-fi (remembered setting & password). Also reinstalled all apps from market, really fast. The best part is that it came back rooted with superuser and all, plus I got my 4G up & running! I don't know how it rooted itself if I reset to factory setting, but I'm not complaining!:D

Thanks for your reply :)

I'm glad its working now. The phone remembered your password probably because its backed up to your gmail account.

Your phone will not "unroot" with a Factory Reset. You have to physically unroot the phone with the program you used to root it. As far as the settings and apps. There are two options in Settings>Privacy labeled "Back up my data" & "Automatic restore" Those two settings are checked by default which is why that all came back after resetting your phone.

Thanks, I just assumed that factory meant out of the box condition (not rooted). May have to re-root after ICS update anyway.

Thanks again, I did not realize those settings were automatic. I was relying on Google for Mail & Contacts restore & Titanium Backup for apps & data restore.

BTW, everything has been restored EXCEPT the call history on the phone. I tried the [SMS/MMS/APN]Dialer Storage 2.3.6 but it doesn't work. I transferred 3 backups into Titanium, from my previous rom, Peter Alfonso's Gingerbread, GPA17. Do you know how to restore the older call history?

Also, I found several posts regarding bloatware removal, but most were the posters suggestions. Some apps are reliant on other apps, so uninstalling or freezing one or the other will cause crashing or non-functional apps. Do you know of a definitive list of bloatware that can removed without affecting others?

I too, was having some issues. Someone said to do a factory reset and NOT allow the Google settings to apply. What I can't figure out is how to just restore everything back with TiBu! I did all the backups before the reset, but when I get to TBs restore screen, none of my apps are there? What am I doing wrong?

I think that after you backed up with TB & then reset back to factory, you actually wiped all data, including the Titanium backup. What I did was, backed up all data + apps w/ Titanium on my previous phone (D1), did the reset on Razr, then copied all from Titanium folder from Droid 1 into Titanium folder on Razr. Presto! All 3 older Titanium backups appeared on the Razr. So go back into your old phone, copy TB files, paste into TB folder on Razr, & you should be good to go.

p.s.
I still can't figure out how to restore the the old call history in the "recent" area on the phone. Anybody have the solution?

I specifically did not wipe the SD card, but what I think happened was that the phone uses the internal card for storage first, and the removable card for specific stuff...which looks like it didn't include my TB stuff. And even more annoying is the fact that I have TB set up to send everything to Box after it's done, which of course, it didn't. My bad for not checking first...
