failed to update software?

I have an Samsung galaxy ace S5830i and I tried to upgrade the android verion using kies but during updating it said failed to update software on my computer but my phone says its still downloading? Should I leave it? Will this effect my phone?

My current software is very old as I never knew I coul upgrade it.

Hopefully you have solved this issue. If possible try to restart the update process you may also want to contact Samsung as they should be able to assist with an error with their program.
