failure of fingerprint to open S8

Please , in a moment of madness I configured my S8 to open and lock to a pattern and a fingerprint . I'm fed up to the ack teeth with having to draw and be refused , or try to open with fingerprint and need to do it several times before it works . How can I disable this please

Go into your security settings and delete the fingerprints. Then change the screen lock to whatever you want (including "none" if you don't care about anyone who picks your phone up having full access to your data and accounts).

My daughter uses the eye scan thing with her S8, and seems to find it reliable enough. I have no problems with fingerprints but I am using a different phone. Have you tried the trick of storing more than one copy of your fingerprint (i.e. the same finger but save it as if it's a separate one)? The theory is that if you misplace the finger it's more likely to find a match if it has more different samples from that finger stored.

Definitely try this trick. I heard of it about a 2 months ago, and it has completely solved the problem of my fingerprint not being read, except when my finger is wet.

Just tried deleting both pattern and fingerprint . I'll see how that goes for now , and then if I decide that I still need security I'll try all over again . Hope all this works . i think ALL my problems with computers and / or smartphones are self - inflicted . Should know better by now !

Just in passing , I think the S8 is a very good phone to use . I had an S7 Edge but broke the screen on that within days of getting it , Too expensive to repair and as far as I could see , Samsung only , no freelancers . I had an s6 and I found that suited me fine , I thought that was a really nice phone .

Thanks folks , worked fine . All back to where it was . If I decide that I need security , I''ll have another go . proof , if needed , of the saying "if it ain't broke --------- etc. Thanks again .

My finger print reader has been rubbish recently. When you google this you will find that there seems to have been a security update recently that has knackered it. There are thousands of posts about it but the usual crap replies stating wipe cache or reset phone. It used to work really well but now even trying to register a fingerprint is pretty hopeless.

The question is, do either of those "crap replies" actually work, or does the problem remain? I understand a reluctance to do a factory reset (my Pixel 2 has had issues, for the first time, since the last security update, and I haven't had the heart to try that yet - will wait and see whether the November update fixes them first), but wiping cache is harmless and just takes a minute, so is always worth trying (if you have a phone that still has that option...).
