Fake News...

It's been in the real news a lot more lately, perhaps because the MSM has in some cases opined that it may have swayed our election. It's been around quite some time, though.

This article (from NBC News) is revealing in how the system works. If Google and FB really want to crack down, they don't even have to put in much work; just start blacklisting IPs out of the region. ;) Legitimate people can then contact them to get back in the legitimate game.

I "like" the justifications in the article, along the lines of "well, they're not killing anyone, they're not stealing, they're not selling drugs"... as though that makes it all okay. I suppose if that's your standard, you can rationalize anything.

What are the facts then? It seems every media outlet is biased in one way or the other. I believe NBC about as much as I would believe Dmitri. We are supposed to form our own opinions based on fact. Not based on what sells the best.

Wasn't Brian Williams an NBC Anchor?

internet bullying... you can go to jail.

if you create fake news about the same person over and over..
and cause some harm to them...
is that not internet bullying??
should they not be prosecuted ??

As long as click-bait is a thing, it's going to be a thing.

Every news and pseudo-news outlet utilizes the same tricks to catch eyes and ears in the fight to remain relevant.

That's what I wanted to say exactly, I could not put it so eloquently. I take every bit of news with a grain of salt.

I turn off images, videos and ads.

I just read. If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.
Sites may complain about ad blockers, but I don't think they can see banning img and other tags like that.

I don't like videos since I can read faster than someone can talk, and I don't have to listen to slanted enunciation.

Click bait; don't like it....
once I follow one of those links, on my linux box; and i see what they are about, I block them forever.

My Facebook mostly just shows me stuff that my personal friends put up....
of course, if they link to one of the click bait sites, then I block that site, making their post useless.
