Help Fastest method of tethering?

I been trying out pdaNet to use my g1 as a tether? I am not happy with the download speeds, is there any other methods of tethering that has faster download speeds?

If you are root, use android-wifi-tether - Google Code

It's amazingly simple and seamless.

If you aren't root pdaNet is the only way I know how to tether besides using a websharing (not true tethering) app that I've heard about but not used myself.
