I'm currently using Aldiko. It has access to tons of public domain books and I love the interface. Also if you use Calibre to format your books to EPUB they look very nice. I also love the ability to change the screen brightness level by sliding up and down the left side of the screen.
 
All I can find are ebook readers for public domain books. Is there an ebook reader for Android where you can publish first run books? I really miss that on Blackberry. For the past few months I was a dedicated user of the Barnes and Nobel app, and was bummed to see that they still don't have an Android phone app. Hopefully with the Nook coming out based on Android OS they will add an app for the phones.
 
Anxiously awaiting eReader for the Droid.
I have a number of books from FictionWise that are in secure eReader format.
Rumors are that the reader will be out "soon".
Also like Aldiko. I actually converted all (500+) of my non-secure ebooks from FictionWise to ePub so I could re-read them using Aldiko. Wife thought I was nuts but that's a common opinion.

I had never heard of FictionWise --- it says that it is a Barnes and Nobel company, so hopefully they will come out with an ereader for Android as well.
 
I've converted some of my books into EPUB but unfortuneately some of them are coming unreadable at the other end. Did you use Calibre or another program for conversion?
 
I'm also happily using Aldiko for public domain books - but really want to be able to buy books ala Kindle for itouch/iphone. I love reading on the droid but want to be able to buy and download books easily, without converting/formatting. I contacted B&N to see if their ereader is available for the droid (it's currently downloadable for iphone/itouch, blackberry, pc, and mac) and they said to keep checking - not available now but may be in the future.
 
I sent an email to Barnes and Nobel asking what the status was of their Android reader, and here is the disappointing response I got back:

compatible with Andriod. Please check our website often as we are

I am still shocked that no ebook seller wants to step up and capture the Android market. I would have expected to at least get some confirmation from B&N about whether they are or are not even in the process of developing an Android App.

I have been purchasing ebooks from B&N ever since they released their ereader for Blackberry, but if Kindle or some other company comes out with an eReader first, they will get my business.

Everyone who would be interested in an ereader from Barnes & Nobel or Amazon should submit feedback to them. Hopefully one will come soon.

When I converted my ebooks to ePub I used my FictionWise account. All non-secure eBooks can be downloaded in multiple formats. Since ePub seems to be popular now and multiple readers available for Android I simply re-downloaded them in that format.

Wow, wow, wow.... that is the first ereader for Android I have seen that appears to give you the option to buy new releases.... I am off to make my first purchase.

With the explosion of Android phones over the past two weeks, I am sure this will be the first of many apps, but Fictionwise should get credit for being first to market.
 
I was able to get the program downloaded, purchase my first book (actually re-purchase the book I was in the middle of reading on my Blackberry before I got the Droid), download it to the phone and all looks good. I am sure there will be some improvements (ie ability to darken the background), but as I begger I am not going to be choosey.

One minor complaint I have is that I purchased the book from ereader.com, which indicates it is a Barnes & Noble company. However, the same ereader is not available through Barnes & Noble, which means that I can not download a lot of books I have purchased through them and not yet read. I am hoping that since this is a beta, once things go well, they will promote it on the B&N site and allow downloading books from that account????

The software from fictionwise and eReader.com is the same. If you want to access your eReader bookshelf all you have to do is enter your eReader.com login into the app and you will see all your purchases from there. If your logins for fictionwise and eReader are the same it will actually show your purchased books from both sites.
 
I pretty much only read public domain books, and Aldiko looks like a great reader so far, but it lacks the one thing I need most: annotations. Does anyone know of a reader that will let you annotate? Cheers

I too would love to see annotations & highlighting. Word-Player supposedly supports these, but it's broken on the Droid (fix coming soon, according to the Dev's response to my e-mail).

I'm using Aldiko exclusively now, and when I e-mailed the devs asking for annotations/highlighting, they said it would be implemented "soon". Unfortunately they've already done one update since then with no sign of that feature.

okay u guys are confusing me.....which one is it that ur talking about? i really need an app so i can read books. so whats the name of these apps?
 
Just downloaded eReader from that link and it works great. Purchased and downloaded a Nicholas Sparks book as well. Very cool!
