Fear of Heights? Not so much, WHOA!

In all honesty I don't really have a fear of heights (mountaineering, rock climbing, skydiving, bungee jumping), but I do have a healthy respect for gravity and the laws of physics.

That said, there's no way you could pay me enough to do this job, this way. That's all I'm saying. (And if you suffer from acrophobia, it's probably best that you not watch this video. Even I sucked in my breath in a couple of spots...

I found myself wondering where it was filmed.

You could try to guess from the ethnicity of the workers, but I can also think of some wealthy countries with a record of using migrant workers in very unsafe conditions, so would not assume that's a good way of judging

I found myself gripping my mouse tighter while I watched that. I'd just jump and get it over with.

Omg I would have every single one of them FIRED.

That whole company I would throw them all off site IMMEDIATELY. Everyone FIRED.

I once had a young man climb up 71-C-14 it is very high next to the biggest exchanger there - about 50 meters high (there is a warning sign before you start climbing up warning you of how eagles have their nests up there and get very aggressive if you come too close to their young just for example)

I did see one or 2 nests but luckily no eagles in them hehe :D

But this young man went up and when I started climbing I found him WITHOUT a harness!!

I was furious and sent him off straight to safety. They gave him a strict talking to but luckily gave him a chance.

I also had before a terrible BEE candidate a big ugly arguement about a gasket on plant I think it was 56 yes plant 56.

I told him their specs were wrong and the gasket was incorrect for that particular system.

I refused to sign it off after emails and disagreements and he told me fine that he would sort it out. There was a big nasty argument over that. I absolutely hated that guy - total dangerous moron.

Then the next day I hear the siren going off and it wasn't the routine siren drill on Wednesday.

I felt a horrible chill run through my entire body when I heard that siren.. I felt very very very sick... plant 56 went up in flames!!!

Luckily nobody was injured and there was no explosion.

That maniac was then fired I think shortly after that and he had the audacity to try and blame me afterwards!

But seriously I would have that (Indonesian?) company fired and then black listed - you do know that there is an international database that multiple companies are linked to right?

If a company or someone does something extremely bad they can be black listed for life!

Depends on how severe it is.

But that company doing that job there wow I would have them all thrown off site immediately.

Not even think twice!

But sometimes you need to do a proper investigation. Once we had a young man drop his bomb. (Bomb is a nick name for the X ray machine not a real bomb lol just our funny lingo :))

He dropped the X Ray machine from about a height of 30 meters it was up high near the Sour Water extractor next to zone 4.

But it was completely not his fault as the chain holding up the X ray machine (this is bog standard and correct the way he is doing it) basically the chain had snapped.

This was a mechanical fault that had nothing to do with him or his negligence at all but they fired him.

So I basically said no that this is not acceptable and he is innocent and it was all caught on camera luckily so he was saved by me and he was very grateful :)

(Sometimes they shoot from the hip but I kind of don't blame them as well to be frank I understand why everyone is so hectic )

But those guys there in that video up above?

EVERYONE FIRED

I would fire every single one of them and the company thrown off site immediately and maybe consider black listing them but hopefully they will learn their lesson from being fired and that they will learn to seriously behave next time.

It's not really the height that's an issue here, it's how he's working. Aside from the fact there's no safety harness, and ok, I guess you can forgive that if they are experienced working at height. But the guy is walking on a bunch of unsecured pipes. I don't care how good you are with heights, to step on that in this situation is just insane.

No.

You cannot forgive this. Experience is never ever a reason to behave and work in such an extremely dangerous manner. It doesn't matter if you have been around the block 1000 times that will never be accepted to act in such a dangerous manner.

That lot in that video would definitely be fired if they were working here. That is not even debatable or up for argument the video says it all.

They would also more than likely get a 1 year ban on the international blacklist database in fact judging from that video 1 year might be too lenient. But that would be decided / discussed but the chances are quite high they would be banned and put on the blacklist database for a quite some time.

I did not study safety but I am pretty sure a year ban on the international blacklist database or so would be implemented under such highly dangerous conditions.

I know of 1 man at my other old work place got into a fist fight when the pressure was very high and he was given a 2 year ban on the international blacklist database for dangerous / aggressive behaviour.

No matter where he goes his name will show up on that database and he will be refused work until the time expires / passes. (Maybe the only place in the whole world I can think of that doesn't have the data base is North Korea. But they don't care about anything)

I think his 2 years has expired now and he is allowed to work again and is off the blacklist judging from the time I last remember the incident.

To get onto that database you have to be quite the dodgey scum bag.

Amazing, awesome and absolutely reprehensible of course. I watched it yesterday too and all those thoughts occurred to me....

..... along with :).....

would they be made or willing to do the same work im any type of wind, even a breeze. Things will start rolling or falling. The company or workers wouldn't want to lose a day or a week because of less than ideal weather.
