As the post says I don't think I'll be able to attend college.
I'm just going to go ahead and be very blunt with you all. I did not care about high school. At all.

My gpa was a 'whopping' 2.95
No extra curricular activities
No volunteer work during high school
No money (family couldn't even afford cable TV or Internet until 2 years ago)
(couldn't do most of the extra curricular stuff because of either financial issues or lack of free schedule)

I do not know what to do, and my depression is at an all time high because of it. I feel like colleges will look at my background and just conclude that I am a big failure.

What should I do?

To be honest I also didn't do any extracurricular stuff in high school mainly because parents are over protective. But at least over here, our basis is whether you passed the entrance exam or not.

Start with your basic needs classes at a junior college, and if you keep your grades up, you will qualify for financial aid if you should need it. At any rate, for many degrees, you can do those first 2 years at a junior college, and after that, they will see that you mean business and it won't be that hard to get into your local university. You might benefit by speaking to your councellor at the jr college and he/she can help you get started. Go for it, and good luck!:)

Community college is the way to go. It's cheaper and it'll get you ready for a university.

I went to a CC and loaded up on all the difficult classes there. Once I transferred those classes didn't get added to my GPA.

In terms of money, financial aid is not that difficult to qualify for. The year before I started college, my dad had been out of work for over a year and my mom didn't work, so essentially we had no income. Because of that, I qualified for a Pell Grant; and combined with a couple loans (Stafford I believe), I was able to go to UNC Chapel Hill for essentially nothing!
Work with the guidance counselor at your school to explore other options as well. There's always an option for everyone! :)

Go check out a community college. I went well after high school, but now you are in a time when they don't push you into a certain field.

You don't have to take a full course, if you like photography, you can usually just take a class.

Failing that, there are now some legitimate colleges offering free courses online.
See what's available and move at your own speed until you feel comfortable.

there are jobs where you can advance witg experience. There are jobs if you have experience its more than a college degree. I would recommend you to go after anything that is close to medical field. It's always work and its always money. Some degrees are not more than 2 years of school. Vocational school is an option too. It all depends on what you are good at. I really hate job where you have to sit around whole day long, but thats just me.

Community College!!! it's relatively inexpensive and you can get your grades up and then transfer to a University...I have many friends who did just that!
and now some are Harvard , Med school, Astronaut, Lawyers,West Point Grad , Engineers executive chef very successful business owners...just to name a few..

oh and PS 2.95 is not that bad!!! You probably could get into a 4YR now!!!:):)

Here's another vote for community college! There are MANY pluses.

. Its costs are much lower than a 4-year university.
.. If you're working, you might be able to pay as you go.
.. You can also ask if there are on-campus jobs.
... If you work on campus, you may qualify for employee discounts on textbooks and such.

. They're more forgiving about entrance requirements. Your poor GPA from high school might not be an issue.
.. If it *IS* an issue, you might be allowed to enroll on a probationary basis. One good semester and the probation should go away.

. They're closer to home--so no need (and expense) for dorm/apartment expenses.

Regardless of the route you take, if you need to take out student loans it's not the end of the world. Just realize that you're going to be stuck with them until they're paid off.

yeah dude listen to these guys. you'll be fine.

dont expect to jump right into harvard or something but you have plenty of options. dont sweat it.

Another vote for going to a community college/junior college before transferring to a university. It's cheaper, and honestly the first few years at a university is just getting the GE's out of the way (that's what I did). It gives you a chance to really figure out what you're interested in.

In California, going to a CC/JC gets you guaranteed admission into any of the Cal State schools here once you decide to transfer (and you have enough units of course).

There are also scholarships and grants that you can apply for, as well as loans. There's plenty of options for financial aid, you just have to dig around a little.

Also, while I'm not saying don't go to college (I think it's a great experience that all should have a chance at), it's not like it's impossible to be successful without an education. I know plenty of people who are well off because they started from the bottom and worked hard and worked their way up to where they are now.
