Help Few basic questions (CWM,Root methods )

Lurker
I m totally novice to the androind community so most of my questions might feel funny. Please be nice .

Few basic queries..not device specific

1.Why different devices have different CWM requirement ? Why not same CWM works for all? is it just coz of hardware difference ?

2.Can i backup STOCK ROM through CWM without any app/data etc? plain stock ROM ?

3.I installed CWM to my samsung S5360 through Recovery--> Install From SD Card method.., why after rebooting it shows STOCK recovery again..? Why not permanent CWM ? (again hardware limitation ?)

4.As mentioned above we install CWM or root package through recovery---> Install Zip From SD....does this method not suitable for all the phones? coz many phones are rooted /flashed with ODIN or some other way using PC.. why ?

best wishes

1. A custom recovery (which CWM is one example of, there are others) needs to be built for the particular phone just the same as Android does. The main thing is hardware, particularly how the storage is arranged. Don't try one built for a different phone, even if you think it should be similar, because that can cause serious problems.

2. I don't think so (I've not used cwm for 3 years, so it may have changed - best to check what options it has now). But you should be able to restore just the ROM (advanced restore).

3. and 4. are phone-specific, so I can't really answer them. However, you might find more information here: http://androidforums.com/forums/galaxy-y-all-things-root.1089/. Start with the "All Things Root Guide" sticky post is usually a good plan.
