Few Issues with LG V10 I've noticed...can anyone relate?

Hey all,

New to this forum, and new to Androids (well-the last Android I owned was an Incredible 2 LOL).
Loving my LG V10 so far but have noticed a few things about it that makes me wonder if I should get mine replaced, or if it's just a normal issue that is typically to deal with since it is such a new device.

1. My phone is set at a set brightness (usually around 70% or so). I unlock my phone, and it is bright-a second after I unlock my phone, it will slightly dim and stay at that brightness. Has this happened to anyone else?
2. Video and Audio Playback - When I watch a streamed video, at times it will hiccup. For example, I'll watch a MKBHD video on youtube and the audio will keep going bu the picture freezes. On Spotify, there's random times a song will skip, kind of like those old school CD Players with the anti-skip protection. LOL. Note that the songs are downloaded for offline playback so it isn't a streaming issue. This also occurs sometimes with the default Music app.
3. HOT! Man-when I use this phone, or even just have it charging in my car for example, the thing gets HOT! Not sure if this is normal for Android (I've been an iOS user for a long time) but it's kind of worrisome.
4. Battery Life - Honestly kind of sucks to me. Real life example - I commute to work in the morning (for about an hour and a half) and am on the phone or playing music the whole time. It goes from 100 to like..78% by the time I get to work. Is this normal battery life for this device?

Just a few concerns above-nothing that will make me stray away from this phone as I absolutely love it..the 2nd notification screen actually is pretty useful to me. LOL. Just wondering if anyone else is facing similar issues and/or will these issues be resolved through updates or if I should exchange this device for a new one.

Thanks!!

1) Hasn't happened to me.If you have one of the larger/bulkier cases installed, this may be interfering w/the sensor (Located next to the phone call speaker)
2) No issues with playback whatsoever.Since two different vids have issues,I'm led to believe this may be due to a weak signal.Try d/l a video for playback & compare.
3) Car use w/GPS is gonna warm things up. Again,a signal connectivity issue,as you're in transit, never locked-in on a signal,a very different experience than say at home/work/etc.....
A large bulky,multi-layer case will only aggravate this.
4) Battery life is subjective & based from your use,it sounds like you've got a lot of screen-on time all day,no phone is gonna hold up to that.Get a couple of batteries to swap out.

I luv my phone & I'll be the 1st to admit,it's not perfect,as the overall performance is OK,but, not as snappy as the Note5:
There's a bit of occasional lag when I transition from app drawer to desktop & web pages don't load as quick as the Note 5's,but,it's not a slouch by any measure.

Your last device was an HTC Increbible2 & if it was anything akin to the HTC One series, performance was tops, very fast & smooth all-around.I haven't found a phone yet that matches HTC's smoothness.(Note5 comes close).

If you're on VZW still,I'd recommend disabling all the VZW bloat possible & see if that doesn't improve things a bit.

Thanks for the reply. I'm actually on T-Mobile and realized their stupid My Account app accounted for like 40% of the battery usage! Insane. That, and changed my location settings to battery saving. Hopefully these things will help.

I'll do my best on these:

1. This will tie into #4, but I typically keep the brightness under 40%. At times when I raise it, I do not notice anything odd about it dimming. Check the auto settings.

2. Mine goes without a hitch. Just watched the Fantastic Four Honest Trailer and it had no issues. Admittedly, I don't use video much on my phone outside of Sanpchat, but I never noticed anything glitchy.

3. Mine has gotten hot when looking for a signal/struggling to find one, but I think that is normal. Stays cool when charging for me.

4. Battery. Try turning your brightness down. The screen is massive and will take more battery effort. I know everyone's use is different, but I have been off the charger since 6am. Listened to FLAC audio (new Foo Fighters EP) a bunch of times. Have been texting, Hangouts, Snapchatting all day along with that video I just watched and I am at 69%. Brightness is at 34%. The battery life is not the best on this phone, but I never expected it to be with a screen that size. It's just a trade off with the big, slim phones.

Yeah,if you dig deep into the settings of the "My Account" app,you can disable almost all of the Background B.S.

Since you're on T-Mobile I highly recommend rooting your device & use an app such as SD Maid PRO or Titanium BackupPro to freeze/disable the rest of the B.S. that you do not use.(XDA-Developers has a very active forum for the v10 & sub-forum for the T-Mobile variant, especially root/mod discussions,if you're interested).

All good info from KOLIO and ed.

Although, my buddies lags on app drawer and I don't. Both rooted on tmo but I use aviate launcher so it's not a "drawer".

I'm using APEX Launcher (Pro),what is your bud using?

Hello OP...
Here are my thoughts on your questions.
1. Yes, I too found that the "auto-brightness" is finicky. I will turn it off most of the time. (That works for me).
2. I don't watch to many videos so my answer won't apply.
3. I do not find my V10 get's any hotter then my other devices (Samsung Note 2&3).
4. Battery life is very subjective as Kolio as said. For me it works.

Good Luck, I love my new LG V10.

Lateck,

The only time I experience warmness is on those rare occasions that I play a game. Even if I leave my V10 on the charger overnight (which I often do), it's completely cool in the morning.

I also just got this phone. I had to take auto brightness off, I keep it at about 56% witch works for me. I have not noticed any problems with video paybacks. I also have not noticed the battery getting hot. As for battery life it could be better I guess but it is twice as good as my last phone.

Battery life for my usage is considerably less than my note 4. On the v10 I get 3.5 to 4 hours where I was getting at least 5 on the note. I do however keep my screen at 80% brightness to keep it around the level I was used to on the note, so I'm sure it will be better for others.

The good news is I have a spare battery kit at home and at work so it could only last 2 hours and I really wouldn't care. Hooray for practicality :p
