fight: EVO 3D vs Photon vs SG II

Here are my issues with the ET4G and your claims.

The ET4G appears to be faster because the almost AOSP interface is certainly lighter than Sense 3.0, but in comparison the ET4G UI is also crude, unrefined, and is so far behind with regards to useable features that its not even a comparison.

Also, if you are simple enough to go to Quadrant scores to prove your point, that would be a mistake. The Evo 3D’s CPU is a fully asynchronous processor with each core being completely independent, and capable of doing its own thing. Because of this, Quadrant is running on only one of the two cores when it scores 2000-2200 (stock).

The CPU in the ET4G is not asynchronous. I tis dual core, but both cores only work on the same task until it is completed and then it moves on to the next task. Because of this design, Quadrant is running on both cores when it scores 3000-3200 (Stock). I’m afraid that it’ll take a more sophisticated benchmark tool to get any sort of accurate power comparison.

The T4G being that tiny, fraction of an inch thinner is completely irrelevant. The fact that you mentioned it tells me that you are quite likely one of those people where 'your choice is the only choice' and you're so desperate to be correct that you'll attempt to use anything as an advantage no matter how meaningless. Finally, the fact that you feel that it being that minute, insignificant amount thinner is an advantage, edge, or improvement tells me that you're also likely yet another victim of Apple's brilliant but completely meaningless advertising campaign that has somehow convinced droves of people that a phone that is .44" thick is obviously so much better than a phone that is .48" thick. I am so bored with such mindless, sheep-like thought.

Yes, it is in fact a good bit lighter, and that is definitely a point in favor of the ET4G. However, I have to say that the light weight, that ultra-important extra thinness, in conjunction with the slickest, most difficult to hold onto finish ever available on a smartphone doesn’t exactly thrill me.
The speaker phone and earpiece may be a ton louder which may indeed be an advantage if you’re either hard of hearing or simply use the speakerphone a lot. I am neither of these. However, numerous reviews have all mentioned that the Samsung’s voice call sound quality is inferior to the Evo 3D, sounding even more thin and digitized. That really doesn’t mean much to me either, and both of these fall into the ‘who cares’ heading in my comparison.
The screen on the ET4G is indeed .2” larger which is a difference. However, it also has early last year’s 800x480 resolution while the Evo 3D has the more current, higher definition 960x540 resolution. It is visibly sharper in pixel detail. However, the ET4G screen is the latest Super AMOLED+ type, so it fires back with better contrast and colors so bold they almost look unrealistic. The sub-pixel synthetic up-convert effect does make it look sharper than the resolution allows for, but its just not as detailed as the Evo 3D’s screen. On the other hand, the SuperAMOLED+ screens don’t suck power like a pig as the earlier versions did, now consuming about the same power as the latest LCD screens do.
So, same power draw, one has obviously higher resolution and detail while the other has higher contract and bolder colors. To me this is a wash, personal preference material. However, since I am quite happy with my old Evo 4G screen & resolution, I think I’d prefer the SuperAMOLED screen on the Samsung by the tiniest hair. But that’s just me.
In their initial forms, the Samsung’s cameras do appear to shoot superior pictures and video, but here we come to yet another point. It’s not that the Evo 3D shoots bad pictures or video; they are actually quite acceptable and far better than many other popular phones. It is just that the Samsung does this even better, which is cool by me. The thing is that I don’t see enough difference to make me choose a phone for it.
The Evo 3D shoots more than good enough photos and video for me, and I have a real camera if I need better. If you’re trying to compete in photography contests using your phone’s camera, trust me, the quality of the pictures is not what you should be most worried about.
In more than one test that I saw, the Evo 3D had better wifi and 4G signal strength, but again the fact here isn’t that there was anything wrong with the performance of the ET4G as it just got slightly bested in these categories.
To show that I’m…not like you, I’ll state that at this point, I’m slightly in favor of the Samsung. I have no interest in the 3D gimmick at all as I personally feel that its great for TVs and even tablets, but on a phone its just a gimmick and a ******ed one at that. Please note that this is only my opinion and I’m fine with anyone that disagrees. Civilized people can agree to disagree.
But now we get down to the entity-gritty. Between family, friends and co-workers, I have had access to over 50 Android phones and their users, some of which are on their third Android phone. Here’s some things that I’ve learned. The carrier is the same and I’ve found Sprint to be no better or worse to deal with than any other carrier. They all suck in my book. But as much as support from HTC may suck at times, it blows away Samsung’s support, according to many current and former Samsung owners that I know personally.
Then there’s the fact that Evo 4G, at almost a year and a half old, is on its fourth Gingerbread update. I believe that the Evo 3D is on its second update…maybe it’s third. Most every Samsung user that I know, excluding the few that have Samsung phones less than 6-months old, are all still on Froyo. One or two that are as old as my Evo 4G just got Froyo.
If the past is any indicator, HTC is far better with updates, OS, security, and features. That is a defining point to me. Were it not for this I might get the ET4G as I believe that the phones are different but equal. But having lived with an HTC phone for quite some time now, and watching numerous people’s experience with their Samsung phones (including one of my brothers), I simply could not feel comfortable getting the ET4G.
Thank you for your time.

I would pick the Epic 4G touch over the 3D anyday. That's my personal opinion.

Choice is a beautiful thing. I would still choose my EVO 3D. I looked at the SGS2 recently for an upgrade to one of my lines and while it is a nice phone, I chose the NS4G. It was free and is a Google phone so it will receive updates even though it is a Samsung.

Wait wait wait...if you prefer a thinner phone, you are a mindless sheep by default...but civilized people can agree to disagree? Wtf is civilized about calling people mindless sheep because you don't agree with them?

will stick with my epic touch in my opinion the better choice. Love the screen love the performance love the battery life.
