As far as access management goes...

A normal user is signed into a guest account. He/she doesn't have access to the /system partition and neither do non system apps.

A root user has full administrative access and apps granted root rights can do as they please.

Memory management...

Android runs a modified Linux kernel, so free ram is wasted ram
