File Transfer through Wifi

Hi,

Is there a way to transfer files from android device to other android device over wifi (without any router in between) without bluetooth and without using any app from play sore?
just using the stock android options?

possible?how?
 
I don't know about with Wifi but you should be able to do it with NFC using Android Beam which I think uses a feature called Wifi Direct.

You might also want to look into using Bluetooth for file transfers.
 
I use bluetooth a lot for file transfer. I don't think Android has a file transfer over NFC built in, but may be possible with a 3rd party app. But that was out of the criteria for inwell's request.

so what i get is there should be some app on atleast 1 phone (sending device) to have wifi file transfer

secondly, if both connected to same network with router, still i need any special app? i have ES file explorer, how will i send to other device in the same network..?
