Film remakes better than the original?

Hi

Just seen that they've remade Total Recall (Why i don't know) But it's got Colin Farrel in it so it might be ok, but it got me wondering has any remake actually been better than the original film? Because the only reason they remake a film is because it was good in the first place.


Assault on Precinct 13 - John Carpenters original wins hands down.
Rollerball - Both films weren't too hot anyway
King Kong - mmm i actually liked peter jacksons version but think the old black and white film just shades (:p) it
Oceans 11 - A win for the remake!
The time machine - original better
Clash of the titans - original win


Any more ?
 
The Fly - David Cronenberg's version is better than the old b/w version.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers. - the original is very good, but the remake with Donald Sutherland and Leonard Nimoy beats it for sure - the ending... OMG. But then they made yet another one with Nicole Kidman which I refuse to watch because I heard it was as bad as I imagined it would be.

agree on the Body Snatcher Donald Sutherland version was very creepy.
 
Nolan's Batmans are a big improvement for me.

Fright Night - original was better.

The Hitcher - original was better.

The Thing - original was better.

Star Trek - Really like the new one (was never a big fan of the old ones - sorry)

The Karate Kid - old one was better.

Superman - original was better (another one in the pipeline - let's hope...)
 
The Superman out a few years ago wasn't a remake, just different actors. Now the Superman that comes out next year is a remake since they are starting from the beginning again.

Although I did like the one from a few years ago better than the Christopher Reeve ones since the Reeve ones were more campy.

Pet Sematary (2013)
Escape from New York (2013)
Tomb Raider (2013) - Hard for this one to be worse :)
Man of Steel (2013)
RoboCop (2013)

Who knows, one or two may even be good :)

Hollywood ran out of ideas long ago. Seeing these titles as remakes is pitiful

It's the search for the elusive blockbuster franchise fuelling the remakes (and a lack of ideas, lol).

There are still plenty of original films made every year, but i would have to agree with your point again, as i doubt Hollywood was behind many of them...
 
Dredd trailer looks pretty good btw. As a lapsed 2000ad reader really hoping this is dredds breakthrough moment

I gave this topic some thought but I cant think of any....

The hollywood remakes of asian movies are quite horrifying too.
 
Rob Zombie's Halloween Remake was good, cause the fact his version gave a view of the Young Michael Myers darkside, & the creation of the Mask was frightful as the original one. is his remake better than the original? to me...
No. but it was good.
