Finally and after a year and half I'm glad to announce that root is now possible for zte zmax pro z981
Requirements:
-uni-androidtool:
https://www.uni-androidtool.com
-My twrp port:
https://androidforums.com/threads/recovery-twrp-v3-for-zte-zmax-pro.1086861/
-Magisk:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445
How to root:
1- You will need to purchase a subscription in
https://www.uni-androidtool.com
2- enable usb debugging on phone and then open uni-androidtool and log in
3- reboot into edl mode
4- first make sure to backup stock rom
5- replace the recovery.img in the backup folder by the twrp image from my thread
6- choose the flash option then select recovery partition
7- after flashing keep pressing the volume up button during reboot to boot into twrp (very important or twrp will be replaced by stock recovery)
8- allow modification from inside twrp then press cancel
9- flash magisk.zip from sdcard
10- reboot into system and install the magisk manager app
11- You now have permanent root access
