Find my phone app for kids?

dorlow

Ok, my daughter just lost her phone and took her a while to find it. I told her, once you find it, you need to install find my android. Even if the phone is on silent, it will make it make loud noises. They then tried to download it and they got a message that the app is not available for kids. Why would google not want kids to be able to locate their phones?

I assume you're referring to this app?

Google Find My Device, published by Google.

It shows as available for everyone, with no age restrictions. So I can't think why it wouldn't be available to minors.

That 'app' is installed on every Android device.

I don't see how anyone could have missed it.

I despise it myself- because I keep turning it off, and of course, Google keeps turning it back on- every time the device restarts.

This just leads to confirmation of my suspicions of it, obviously.

Anyway, if you want Google to be able to more easilly continuously track you and yours with your phones...

Settings
Google
Security
Find my device

Here is where to turn it on (it will be anyway, thanks(?), Google!) and also a small line stating that it will not work unless location is on.

So they have to track you in order to track you more.

Back to the homescreen, and then

Settings
Security & location
Find my device
(should be about the same as before)

Back up to Security & location
Device admin apps

Be sure your selections are active.

Could be the OP is referring to some other third-party "find my Android" app or service, that possibly has an age restriction? There's a few of them that aren't Google.

Forget it. I figured it out. I have the kids setup with family link. The family link app has a way to locate the kids phones and it's by google so it should work the same as find my android.
