Finding the internal mem, while connected to PC

Afternoon all,
Today when trying to install an app from the market, i got an unsuccessful error - that I didnt have enough room to download the app.
So I plugged the phone into the computer to take a look at what files / apps I dont want/need/use anymore, to make room, but I am not very familiar with the whole thing, and cant really see what Im looking for. It appears that the files which are displayed are only those that are on the SD card (which still has tons of room..). How do I see the things that are on the internal memory? I think I want to go up a directory level, but am not sure how. Help?

Not sure I understand what you mean -- I cant see the files on the internal memory, unless i am rooted?

Depending on your phone, u should be able to: press menu from home sceen > settings > applications > manage applications. Look for stuff that takes over 1mb and was not pre-installed. Select the item and uninstall. Rinse. Repeat

That's correct only see the programs as the post above this one says...
