Finding the right phone

Currently I am a Droid X user. I keep getting the OTA warning that for the new firmware. My phone is rooted and use wireless tether. I am looking around to see which phones are recommended, that I wont have to deal with this anymore. Been looking at either HTC or Samsung. I loved my DX, both my wife and I have one, but maybe its time to move to a different phone.

Welcome to Android Forums BasarabaDroid! Just don't accept the OTA. I personal like HTC but I have been thinking of getting a Gnex to play with.

I havent accepted yet but it keeps coming up. I read about the Titanium something that will freeze OTA updates but not sure I can still do this at this point.

On a side note, the wife's phone has been run through the wringer. I case mine all the time, still looks as new as when I get it when they released it 2 years ago. Her's, I replaced the glass screen 2 weeks ago, she dropped it again, cracked. When I replaced the glass screen I got a little too happy with the super glue and the home and back keys are seriously frozen.

I thought about getting myself a new phone and giving mine to her since I dont use Wireless Tether as much as she does. I prefer EasyTether but it hasnt been availablew on VZW network and not sure I can get it again.

We live in an area where the only internet we can get is dial up and with 4 kids, 3 of them at an age where they have to do school projects online, it is almost impossible with dial up so the wireless tether has been a life saver for us. Now with VZW dropping unlimited data we are going to be really screwed once we lose our unlimited.

We have a 10 gig wireless hotspot and as long as we are not watching youtube or anything like that, it does pretty good. I am thinking we might have to tighten our belts and stick with that only before long, currently we have almost $350 a month for our wireless services.
