Fingerprint List

Hi there,

I have my finger print added to my son's phone, but it shows up on the list as "2 fingerprints have been added". Is there anyway to remove the list or tweak it? I have the phone rooted as well.

Before people start judging me, we had some illegal substances issues in the past and wanna make sure this does not happen again - that is the reason why I want/need access to his phone.

Thanx in advance for any help given.
Bob

Honestly I'm not sure if it can be done. You could go sneaky and get him to put in a few different fingerprints depending on the situation on how he's using his phone or just because they can fail. Speaking from experience I've never only had one fingerprint on my phone as I've needed to open it from different angles. Who knows, he might not notice your extra one. Honestly though I'd just talk with him. I do understand your worry. Won't lie to you, I've been through what he's doing but I grew up and grew out of it. I didn't turn out perfect but I've never purposely hurt anyone so I could've turned out worse. Maybe it took too long to figure it out myself, but who knows what would've happened if my parents had sat down with me and talked.

Not easily: you'd need to modify a system app which is not open source. This is not a requirement I've heard before, so it's unlikely there is a pre-existing solution (which would be specific to the particular phone, possibly the particular software version). It could also be undone by a system update, but as many phones won't update if the system software is modified it's perhaps more likely that he'd discover that something was wrong the first time he tried to apply a security update.

You can always unlock a phone with PIN or password if known. But while I understand your situation I do have to say I'm not comfortable advising how to spy, as that can itself easily have destructive results.

Hi James, yes, that is what I would like to do...I thought it would be possible on a rooted phone with some sort of code?
Rooting your phone won't give you magic powers over it, it gives us the ability to do a lot more things but not necessarily the knowledge. Basically, you're asking someone to sift through millions of lines of code to find the relevant string of text and then edit it to then show a misleading number of items in that Fingerprint menu listing. It's something better left to one who is thoroughly familiar with the ins and outs of the Settings menu (both its source code and GUI aspects), otherwise, as you can deduce it's something of a complicated matter. If you want to remove some bloatware app that your carrier added in is one thing, directly altering how the Settings menu gets displayed is another.

Regarding your son, how old and how technically proficient is he? If he suspects you (his parents) are trying to monitor his phone usage, would he even bother to check the Fingerprint menu at some point, it's not the most obvious item Settings menu.
Also, is this his phone or did you buy it for him?
