Fingerprint without lockscreen

It depends on the phone I expect. On my Pixel 2 the FP scanner unlocks without you seeing the lock screen, except that the first time after a reboot it will ask for the PIN as well.

Yeah, but what I'm looking for is that I can use fingerprint for apps, but don't need anything to unlock the phone

On my s5 i can disable fp for lock screen but it will still ask for it in my banking app. Most apps don't allow me to lock them with fp anyway unless maybe there is an app for that.

What happens if you lock your bank app with fp and remove fp from lock screen?

Just tested on S7 Edge. Went to Lockscreen settings and set lock to none>keep fingerprints.
My banking app does not want to work with my fingerprint, saying lockscreen is disabled. Paypal works with fingerprint login. Seems app dependent.

I guess you're right. Bank of America still takes fingerprint after disabling it for lock screen.
Strange indeed
