Help Firing cameras

I am a new member, and this is my first post. There are so many forums here, but I hope that this is the right place for this question.
All mobile android devices which I have seen have two cameras: front and back. My question is: is it possible to fire both cameras simultaneously?

There are a few devices which included an option to shoot both simultaneously, putting a small selfie of the user in the corner of the main image.

This was touted a year or so ago, but I've not heard anything much about it since. Possibly it turned out that very few people were actually interested in it and the feature was quietly dropped, or at least not talked about (to me it looked like the sort of gimmick someone would use twice, decide it just spoiled the photos, and never use again).

Was only for a few devices, not sure whether anyone ever developed an app for it more generally.

Interesting question. May be, but I could imagine hardware architectures for which it would not be (e.g. a single image processor and no buffer to store input from one camera while processing the other). I don't know the hardware of most devices well enough to answer that.

I did a quick Play Store search and the first 2 apps I found seem to fire the two cameras in sequence, which suggests that at least the API doesn't support this or else they would shoot simultaneously.
