Firmware recommendations for SGH-i747M.

Hey all,

I am running a stock 4.4.2 firmware that I flashed, and rooted it to remove a bunch of the bloatware on it. Runs alright, but until I get my new battery, I can't really tell the longevity of it yet.

Does anyone have any recommendations for firmware for this phone? I'm pretty new to the rooting/rom scene, but from my searching, I don't see a swath of options available to the i747M. Or, if not custom roms, are there any buildprop modifications you recommend that work on the phone to increase performance and battery life?

I played around with uninstalling the bloatware as I mentioned earlier (only messed up my calendar, which I fixed up). In playing with buildprop settings, I made my phone unbootable a few times - had to flash it again to get it running, so I'm a little hesitant to play around with that again.

Thanks in advamce,

John

First thing I would do is install a custom recovery if you haven't already and make a backup of your stock ROM. TWRP works great with the i747 and they have a version for Canada variant.

Grab the 2.8.7.0 tar file and flash with Odin.
The i747 and i747m have same hardware and most custom Roms are unified for both versions.
CM12 is pretty stable if you flash the Snapshot

You will also need to flash gapps to be able to use play store

Once you get TWRP installed you use it to flash the custom ROM and gapps.
Backups are your best friend. When you make them with TWRP check the option to save to SD card so they survive a factory reset.
