first time restarting beyond talk plan

hello,

tomorrow my first month service is up and I need to restart my plan ( tomorrow being 31 minutes from now. )
I called virgin on their 729 number and was told vaguely I should restart the plan sometime in the afternoon. I purchased my phone on the 11th of march about 5 o'clock.
I really don't understand why I need to purchase the plan at a specific time of the day.
Can anyone to give me a little clear understanding of how this plan works. I would appreciate it. it seems a little ridiculous I have to jump through hoops to keep my phone from being shut off or from shorting myself unused minutes.
Really stupid program for a smart phone. My previous service was net10 on a dumb phone and I could pay in advance for months and it was smart enough to keep my plan active until the time ran out.

Thanks

edit make that 13 minutes from now :)

i activated on march 10th and today i can make calls but no internet at all. check to see if you have internet connection on the 11th.

I had no internet this morning but I could make a phone call. I called virgin and they had to restart my plans to make the internet work.
I could've used the 40 minutes left on my plan throughout the day but I guess that's gone..

I am feeling quite put out.

I made a suggestion that they set up an automatic restart so if I wanted to put 100 dollars on my account I wouldn't have to jump through hoops to keep my phone going.
it would be a great benefit to them as they would have 75 dollars in account they could collect interest on.

I just checked my account and it says I've used 259 300 minutes.
I made no phone calls today I had 40 minutes left this morning so where did my minutes go?
Brillant.

I called virgin and they told me that my account shows 300 minutes 0 used
I was told I would get extra minutes for any trouble

today (april 11th) should be your last day of service, since you started on march 11th. next month top up on your last day and see if virgin will restart automatically.
