Fix this joke of an excuse for predictive text software.

How exactly do you think trying to predict the first word I'm going to say, with no context whatsoever, is a good idea?? That alone is crippling Android's predictive text software. It completely ignores any context and just changes words that weren't even misspelled for no reason. This is getting ridiculous.

Depends on the particular keyboard and predictive text app you're actually using. Usually I found many of them start with predicting very commonly used English words like 'The' , 'It', etc and then try to predict words from the sentence you're typing.

Some keyboard apps are better than others in this respect of course, so suggest that you try a different one.

I'm using the default Samsung keyboard. Why the predictive software would be determined by the keyboard being used also makes no sense. So changing 'Even' to 'When' when it's literally the first word being typed in the whole message makes sense to you?

Well FYI the predictive text engine is an integral part of the keyboard app. Can't comment about Samsung because I don't have one of those. But if you change to a different keyboard app, it will use its own text predictions and not Samsung's.

I've been using SwiftKey for a long time now for both English and Chinese input, and very happy with it. Gboard from Google is another good one as well.

Welcome to the forum..... Have fun and enjoy the community..

Just a small thing, and I feel a bit silly for even mentioning this, but as you posted it in the suggestion box its probably worth pointing out that we aren't Google... we aren't Samsung, and we aren't Android. So we're not the ones making keyboards that predict anything.

We're just a community of Android users who like hanging out on the internet, helping people with questions and answers, and talking about android (and non android) related stuff. (and rants are fine, especially if it helps you get the issue off your chest)

Anyway, welcome to the party, and make yourself at home.

And if you are not happy with the predictive text on your current keyboard, just use a different one. As said above, it's a feature of the keyboard rather than the operating system, so change keyboard and you change predictive behaviour. I don't understand why you say that this makes no sense, but for the record it's the same on other platforms.

The same is true of any other app: you don't have to use the one the manufacturer bundled, there are plenty of alternatives.
