Any prospect on a flash plugin for the browser??? Would have thought this would have been in the foresight of the developers, but I have found nothing so far!
so is this jsut going to be a android upadate?
thats what alot of us are assuming. im guessing that the next update will be a rotating screen via accelerometer and flash...........
we will be able to use the full blown flash player 10 in a few weeks....
Guess that "few weeks" is stretching out like the rubber chicken in your Avatar.
I would think it would roll out a bit quicker seeing as how it has already had a succesful demo done publicly. Getting tired of waiting.
i am assuming that this flash support will be included during the update to the G1 FIRMWARE from 1.0 to 1.1? i don't recall cupcake having this included on the list of updates.
well since this would be from Adobe not google or tmo I would assume it won't be OTA and will probably have tor download from them for installation but one never knows...
adobe is working on it for the g1 right now and yes i have talked to them, and it will work on steel because it uses the stock browser ,,,,,,It just occurred to me that Flash probably WILL be browser specific. It always has been on other platforms. So now i'm wondering if this update will require us to use the native browser as opposed to Steel or Opera mini, which would definitely be a bummer. I far prefer Steel to the default browser. Anyone have any insider dope on this?

Hi santaninja,
At Adobe MAX 2008 we showed Flash 10 running on the Android G1. Andy Rubin who leads Google's mobile efforts through Android was on stage to talk.
As well as Android we showed Flash 10 running on Windows Mobile and Nokia S60 devices. We hope to deliver this fully at the end of 2009 and it should not be too long after this when it reaches your G1.
Check it out on youtube.

End of 2009!??!
Rome wasn't built in a day. Not even the holy iPhone has Flash. I'd rather have a flash plugin/player that works than one that was rushed to market.
Good things come to those who wait.
End of 2009!??!
I agree to an extent but there is a difference between rushing to market and purposely delaying the release... it was clear 2 months ago that they had a working version all be it probably had MANY flaws and draw backs but I just don't see it taking over a year to get a version to market when the core of it is obviously working...
Adobe is a large corporation with a plethora of products. I imagine a free plug-in for mobile browsers (considering we've lasted for this long without it) is as high a priority as the next version of Creative Suite. This is not a revenue stream, thus I doubt many resources are dedicated to it. Don't forget that we're in a failing economy, they need to prioritize staying in business first.
If we were already on the other side of this crisis, or if the android had been ready 8 years ago, perhaps adobe would have the plug-in within a few months, but taking into consideration our economic realities, end of the year seems pretty realistic.
Well that's just it are we sure it's going to be free? and don't you think putting the platform out for others to develop on for mobile would take some interest considering it's obvious that mobile is the future of technology? and still if you have a working core that was demonstrated over two months ago it's obviously been working to some extent before that... so as far as resources even if you only had 1 person working on it I still don't see it taking a year unless they are purposely delaying the release so that it can be released on multiple platforms... meaning ops other than android at the same time...
Why wouldn't it be free? It would be a ridiculously bad move to make someone pay for a product that is free in any other circumstance. Who would buy Flash For Android when Flash for Everything Else is Free? And trying to convert Flash to a pay-for-plugin would be Adobe handing the market to Silverlight. Bad move.
The thing about demos is they only show you what the devs want to show you. Doesn't mean there aren't tons of flaws that still need to be worked out. How many apps have you looked at on the market with half the comments saying it doesn't work, force closes, etc? Stability takes time.
Do you even know how long it takes to develop flash for a new system/environment? Can any of you Linux/Mac people chime in and say how long it took to get Flash on those systems? To me, a year seems fast. But then again, I don't understand the obsession. Which porn site is it that everyone seems to need flash to view? It has to be porn for people to be so frantic about it.
