Help Flashing Stock Rom with Heimdell on a Macbook

I'm trying to change the stock firmware on my S3 to an official Samsung ROM downloaded from sammobile. The file I downloaded is called I9300XXDLJ4_I9300OXADLJ4_BTU. It's the UK unbranded firmware.

I have unzipped the file, which then gave me a tar.md5 file. So I change the file to just .tar, then unzipped that file. Inside that file I have:
boot.img
cache.img
hidden.img
modem.img
recovery.img
system.img

I then tried to use this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7u-iUo5C6M

When I open Heimdell on my MacBook, I plug my phone in (in download mode) and go to utilities, detect device, which it does. Then I save the PIT file on my desktop. I then go to the flash tab and browse for the PIT file, load that. Then when I go to add the files I don't have any files listed above called zimage or factoryfs etc, but also the Heimdell options doesn't have anything called kernal anyway. My options in the partition name drop down box are:
Bootloader
Userdata
OTA
Hidden
System
Cache
Radio
Recovery
Boot
Param
EFS
BOTA1
BOTA0
MD5HDR
TZSW

The video says to match the files, but mine seems to have different names for things.

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

Thanks

Hello Bobby and welcome to Android Forums. :)

There's other carriers the S3 comes on including the international version, which one do you have?

AP: I9300XXBLH3
CP: I9300XXLH1
CSC: I9300OPSBLH3

I'm trying to get the JB Update that has just come to the UK Unbranded. I just don't know why the unzipped files are different. I have tried three firmware downloads from SamMobile, but they all give me the same file names.

Did you manage to figure out what to do here? I'm having the exact same problem, Heimdall 1.3.2 and german stock ROM I9300XXDLIH_I9300DBTDLI2_DBT.zip

The only thing I could find where some Linux instructions from the command line, but even there the files were different. I'm afraid to brick this shiny new toy.

Any help would be gretly appreciated!

edit: If it helps, I'm on OSX 10.7.5 and the ROM currently on the phone is Telekom branded 4.1.1; BB I9300BOLJ1; Build JRO03C.I9300XXDLIH

bumping this.

I'm sure the ROM zip I got is correct but as the OP posted, it unpacks as a *.md5 file and that one then unpacks a *.tar file which then extracts the following files:

boot.img
cache.img
hidden.img
modem.bin
recovery.img
system.img

Even if the look familiar, I'm not sure how to match them to the system in Heimdall, so doesn't anyone else, Mac user or not, get these files and has an idea how to use them with Heimdall or even Odin?

Thanks again guys.

With Odin, a single .tar goes in the PDA section. You do not unpack the .tar if using it with Odin.

No idea about anything todo with macs though

Cut me some slack guys, I just switched to Android, no windows machine in sight yet. ;)

Thanks for looking into this, the Heimdall interface changed quite a bit:

Is there anyone else using Heimdall and is on a mac around here?

I've done it on a mac but I haven't got access to mine until tomorrow morning. I can write a guide but I want to be by my computer in case I give the wrong information (based on memory). I can certainly do one for you tomorrow though :)

:) :) :) !

That'd be seriously amazing man, thank you so much in advance! And don't rush, I've got time, I'm just really scared to brick this thing...

Unfortunately our car broke down (in the freezing weather mind) so I'm not able to get home to write a guide for you :( will try my hardest to get one to you tomorrow!
