I'm an authorized retailer for Sprint, AT&T, and T-Mobile and was wondering if anyone had any good, flashy applications that will run on the HTC Hero that may or may not have any practical use, but look cool and certainly turn heads away from things like Palm Pre's and iPhones. One of my favorite things to show customers is the weather application that comes installed on rainy days, so they could see the wind-shield wiper remove the rain from the screen. I've found in my particular market very few consumers actually care about all the techy, geeky things we think about when choosing a phone, and care more about stupid stuff like that. I looked at the 'foggie' app, as showcased by Dana Carvey on the T-Mobile commercial, but I don't think I could justify even $0.99 for an application that is effectively useless and may not work well enough for showing off the phone worthy of winning two awards at T3. Thank you!

focus more on the widgets...flashy examples: stock market, twitter, and weather...move the widgets around/erase them, add them. show the SCENES. looks cool and innovative....also, show off the free navigation app with sprint. iphone users have to purchase through 3rd party...i was in sales for many yrs and thats how i show off my phone to iphone "punks"

@ OP Maybe you should Download some Nifty games like "Speed Forge 3D Demo" & Show them the Augmented reality apps like Reality Browser by "layer" or Wikitude
oh yes and Google's Search by Voice & Google's Local search where the Browser locates your Position and tells you where the nearest Chinese food is for example

The HTC Hero is the flashiest Android device yet (haven't seen the Cliq). Of particular wow factor is the Teeter game, a type of labyrinth game where the phone vibrates when the ball hits the walls or goes down a hole. The haptic feedback is really, really cool.
Another cool Android application is RMaps, which can orient the map in the direction pointed to by the phone's compass. Layar and Wikitude can do some augmented reality, but you need to be in an area that does have some POIs around. If you are, point the phone to some POI and show the client how the phone tells you what that POI is. A practical use for that is when as a tourist somewhere, you wonder what the heck that building is. With a little luck, just point the phone to it, and Wikitude may tell you.
Google Sky Map is also cool. Show the customer how they can locate the moon/sun on the opposite side of the Earth.
Qik sets you up with a live camera in literally 30 seconds. Show the customer live images from the shop, up online at Qik | Share Live Video From Your Mobile Phone.
Snaptell and Shazam are also nifty.
