FM tuner help

Ok so here's my problem.
My Alcatel A574BL phone has an fm radio, but the radio does not work in stereo.

I cannot believe that a phone would have an FM tuner in it that is not capable of decoding stereo multiplex signal. Realistically, I'd say the stupid app that the OEM installed was not written to do stereo.
so I try to replace the app.
Go to play store and type ' FM radio ' and all I get is streaming apps and internet radio. What I want is an FM tuner app that has stereo! Is it not possible to find this?

Alcatel Raven LTE
Qualcomm MSM8909

Tbe go-to solution used to be the spirit.fm app. Sadly both the app and the developer are no longer with us.

You could try SpiritF from the F-Droid repository, which is an open-sourced derivative of it. I don't know about compatibility with your device, but nothing to lose by trying.

Thanks. I tried this and unfortunately SpiritF requires root, which since there's a few other things I don't like on this phone I am tempted to so

Most phones require something be plugged into the headphone jack for use as an antenna. Often, the apps won't recognize the FM chip without something plugged in.

Hi any app should work unless it's something wrong with the device software.

I have a Alcatel pop4 and when the headphone jack is plugged in with the wired headphone set and the FM radio is enabled, the instructions tells you to go to a location where you can pick up a good FM radio signal. Because when I'm rarely using my FM radio it goes in and out depending on the location I'm in, meaning building structure, power lines, underpasses, tunnels what have you would interfere with the FM radio signal.

I have the Alcatel A574BL and the Android Radio App that came with it v7.0.1.1.0426 plays in fine stereo. FM stereo signals suffer from noise and multipath such that many chipsets blend it into mono unless the signal strength is strong.

Here in Texas most FM stations broadcast at 100,000 watts on 1500 foot towers. But in the states of CA (south of 40° latitude), CT, DC, DE, IL, IN, MA, MD, coastal ME, MI (south of 43.5° latitude), NJ, NH (south of 43.5° latitude), NY (south of 43.5° latitude), OH, PA, PR, RI, northern & eastern VA, VI, VT (south of 43.5° latitude), southeastern WI, WV due to many cities close together, FM stations are limited to 50,000 on 500 foot towers. So if you are in those areas, most FM radios revert to mono unless you have an outdoor antenna or are within 10 miles or so of the transmitter. You can view the service area contours of your stations at www.radio-locator.com

By the way...many cheap dollar store headphones and earbuds -- as well as older Skype headsets -- are NOT stereo, even if they have a 3 conductor plug.
