FNG ?: What is sideloading and rooting

Checking out Droids and on the forum came across the terms sideloading and rooting. Can someone tell me what they mean? Thanks.

Sideloading refers to transferring local media, i.e. from PC to mobile via USB.

To root is to gain write access to your system files. Lots more information regarding rooting the droid can be found here...
