Following google news articles yields blank page

Has anyone else experienced subject symptom on CyanogenMod 12? My location defaults me to google.ca, where I then browse to News via the pulldown menu.
 
Or if anyone can confirm or deny seeing this behaviour on their installation, that would be helpful. I'm on CyanogenMod 12-20150213-NIGHTLY-falcon, 1st generation Moto G. I was told on a forum that there no milestone releases of CyanogenMod for this phone yet.
 
It seems like the problem is related to high volume of extra information that Google appends & prepends to the target URL for a news article. Typing in the target URL unadorned with extra info seems to work fine. It doesn't make for a usable Google news, though.

On a related note, is the CM 12 browser basically Chrome? It's just referred to as "browser" and there is no reference to Chrome.
