For once and for all...Does HTC stock email app support Exchange push?

I know this has been talked about a lot in these forums, but I don't see any proof one way or the other. Some people say that the only way to get push notifications is to use the gmail app or a 3rd party app, and some people say you can use the stock HTC app and set things up through Exchange. Then some more people say that even setting it up through Exchange is a "pull" account as well, not push.

However, what I don't see is hard core proof to back any of this up. I would imagine that there is documentation out there somewhere of what exactly is driving the email collection in the HTC Sense email app, and whether or not it is different for Exchange accounts.

I believe if you connect to an exchange server, it will be push email.

Then you set it up as a exchange e-mail you get push mails with htc mail

No offense guys, but how do you know that was true push, and not just standard IMAP? I have read from some posters that say that even exchange email is standard IMAP. Is there any official documentation to back this up?

On my job my bosses has diable imap and pop and only use exchange so that why i know it

Ok, another question. I have set up my gmail account as an exchange account. Do I want to sync my contacts and calendar too, or is that already being synced when I set up the phone initially? And, if I delete the email account on the gmail app, will that delete the sync of my contacts and calendar?

Thanks, guys, for the responses. I got everything set up, and this is working good so far. The only thing that isn't as good as the Gmail app is you can't set a special ringtone for incoming messages (it is just the default notification sound) and I can't change the name of the email account (just says Exchange ActiveSync), but other than that, it works great.

There are multiple ways of connecting to any Exchange server. The options available depend on the specific implementation. IMAP and even POP access generally aren't all that common but they are out there. Plus there's OWA and, of course, ActiveSync. In other words, you're not finding "a" definitive answer because there isn't just one.

Not to mention, there are plenty of "some people" who don't know what they're talking about or specifically have no experience when it comes to Exchange.

Yes! That is the danger of web forums like this. Anyone with a login name can answer questions, regardless of whether they know what they are talking about. That is why I was looking for some sort of "proof". Like I said, no offense about doubting you guys, but it is hard to know who knows what they are talking about.

If you are using gmail, you should use the Gmail app, NOT the Mail app. It works much better at implementing everything together.

Not in my opinion...from what (admittedly) little I have used of both. The Gmail app does not integrate with the rest of the Sense UI, like the mail widget, the "Favorites" contact widget, etc.). As a standalone app, yes the Gmail app is great, and if I had a different phone I might prefer it over the stock app. However, since I have an HTC phone, I think I want to take advantage of all the little interconnected stock app.

In your opinion, how is the Gmail app better at implementing everything together? Maybe I am missing something. Like I said, I am new to this.
