format USB storage?

Hey I am hard reseting my phone tonight but when when it asks to check off format USB storage do I check it? I dont want it to format my external SD card.. that is different right??
 
What phone do you have? I'll link you the forum, and you can ask there. Maybe you could get a better answer...
 
its a galaxy S2 skyrocket. that shouldnt matter though? isnt this a across the board android thing? also I asked here because its busier and I need to know asap. I have to hard reset this phone tonight before bed.
