Forty years ago...

On this day forty years ago, the Edmund Fitzgerald went down "in the big lake they call Gitche Gumee," taking 29 husbands, fathers, grandfathers, uncles, nephews and sons to a watery grave.

Gordon Lightfoot's words are still poignant:
"Does anyone know where the love of God goes
When the waves turn the minutes to hours?"

I sometimes think about those who were drawn together by this tragedy and hope that in this long look back they have coped well. At any rate, my thoughts and prayers are with them on this anniversary.

I saw it was the anniversary on Twitter this morning.

What a great song on so many levels, it's always been one of my hardly ever listen to favorites. I love it when it pops up on shuffle. I'll be playing it later for sure, it's been running through my head all morning.
