Freakin' Lame T&T preventing me from upgrade!

I'M PISSED!!!
I call my local Best Buy to see if they would price match an online price on the Aria. Sure enough they would (but they wouldn't do wirefly.com .01 or letstalk.com FREE) I got them down to a pretty low price on it.

I tell them my official upgrade isn't until next Wednesday and if they thought it would be possible to make it happen today. They tell me, "shouldn't be an issue, it's only a few days. We'll call AT&T and have them move it up" so I'm like "Sweet, I'll come by in an hour or so".

So there we are, the Aria out of the box waiting for me to turn it on and take it home. We pull up my account and yes, my upgrade day is next Wednesday. I call AT&T and politely let them know I'm in the process of signing a new 2yr contract and trying to upgrade my phone.
I say: "My upgrade date isn't technically until next Wednesday but is there any possible way to move it up to today?"
AT&T says: "Are you at an AT&T store?"
I say: "No, I'm actually at Best Buy"
AT&T says: "Which phone are you looking at upgrading to?"
I say: "The HTC Aria"
AT&T says: "OK, well hold on for 2 minutes"
I say: "Sure" Thinking she's going to get managers approval and everything is good!
AT&T says: "Well, what we can do for you is sell you the Aria over the phone right now and get you the upgrade or you can go to an AT&T store and do it"
I say: "I'm already in the middle of doing this at Best Buy and just need my upgrade date moved 5 days"
AT&T says: "You'll have to go to an AT&T store to do that, there is no way for me to do that for you"
I say: "Yes, well I'm at Best Buy because they are willing to price match the phone for me, I want to buy it here"
AT&T says: "Let me see how much we sell it for"
I say: "$129"
AT&T says: "yeah, that's right. We can't price match anything but we can upgrade you at the AT&T store"
I say: "I don't want to pay $129 when I can get it price matched here. Can we please move my upgrade date?"
AT&T says: "I'm sorry, there is no way for me to change the date in the system"
I say: "Why is that, because I'm buying from Best Buy and not an AT&T store?"
AT&T says: "No, it's just not possible to change"
I say: "Absolutely no way it's possible to make this happen for me?"
AT&T says: "No, you will just have to wait"
I say: "Yeah, alright. I really appreciate all your help" (VERY SARCASTICALLY) and hang up.

FREAKIN' LAME T&T!!! I should be Droid right now!!!

I dealt with that a few weeks ago. I went in cause I'm on a family plan, and I was home for the holiday, so I figured we'd go in and take care of things before I left. Went into an ATT store, got our FAN account, great, can't complain there. Went to buy the Aria, just like you, for the full $130, and they said no. I was 6 days away from my upgrade date. Here's how my convo went down:

I politely said "There is no way we can move that date up?"
ATT - "No, you would have to wait the 6 days to get that price"
Me - "So I can't upgrade a week early?"
ATT - "Well you could, but you would need to pay an extra $200 on top of the price of that phone" ($130 + $200 = $330. Full retail for the phone, BUT I would be on a 2 year contract)
Me - "So I would need to pay $200 on top of that upgrade price, to be bumped up a week early?"
ATT - "Yes sir"
Me - "Even though I came home to resolve some business with ATT? I'm only in town this weekend and would much rather take care of this now"
ATT - *with the most straight and stern face* "I'm sorry sir, but we can not move that date up for you to get that price. You could pay that extra $200, but if I were you, I would just wait"
Me - "Ok, thank you for your time"

I wasn't even trying to price match, I was willing to pay their price, that day. Still didn't matter. That incident, mixed with this whole mess of the Captivate being $500 off contract instead of $350, is really making me not like ATT. I'm calling Customer Service tomorrow, to see if there is any way I can get that Captivate for $350, cause if I can't, I'm buying the most crappy phone I can tolerate, and jumping to Verizon as soon as my contract is up.

Geez, that is bogus! I've been with them for 6 years, always paid my bill on time and have never asked for anything before and they can't do one small favor.

I never knew what people had against AT&T until now... I mean they moved peoples upgrade dates MONTHS in advance who wanted to get the i4 but when it comes to me asking 5 days for a Aria...."HELL NO"

Sorry to hear about your troubles too! I just can't justify jumping ship :( Verizon costs too much and Sprint has a nice deal but don't want to pay that extra $10/mo for the Evo.

Yup, AT&T loves their iPhone customers. For me, I can pay that difference if it means better service/customer support.

Well now it is only 4 days :D

Maybe you need to talk to someone else, like a supervisor or their retention department. Stay calm, don't cuss at them, but possibly mention things like EVO, X, etc. If you leave 4 days early for another carrier, your ETF will be prorated to about $5.

I am sure it can be done, you just haven't talked to anyone yet that has the power.

I just called again this morning, and they gave me this big i4 push! She said they upgrade date was 7/21/2010 but it should be good to go to get an upgrade today. She said "you can go to your local AT&T store or order online and you'll be good to go with upgrade prices"

I didn't want to mention Best Buy again but I did not want to buy at AT&T price compared to what I'll get at Best Buy. So I said "that's awesome! To save any hassle while in the store though, do you think we change my upgrade date to reflect it happening today?"

She says: "No sir, I can't change it but you're good to go. I recommend going to the local AT&T and they will take care of you"

This sucks! I will survive with my LG Vu until Wednesday but I'm going to be pretty busy next week as well. I wanted to get that Aria and set it up over the weekend.
