Freddy's computer is done, now how do I

Just finished building the Kavari APU system for my cousin. I just played battlefield on it for quite some time and WOW this system is amazing. It's on par with my current system that I use for myself. FX 6300 and a GTX 650.
I'll do a review and benchmarks later and share it elsewhere, but now, because I have never had the need to do this before, how do I clear everything on this computer of my information so that my cousin can use it like it's new where he will create the account, link to his MS account and everything... Will I have to reinstall the Operating system? Won't that delete everything off the drive?? (Let me guess, I have to back up???)

Depends on the type of drive and how paranoid you want to be, but I would recommend a secure drive wipe. A fresh OS install is usually a good idea to clean up all the cruft that can build up.

You can slipstream the Windows updates and service packs so that when you reinstall you can load all the security updates before connecting to the internet (and it's faster than downloading them all when you install)

(Also, you only need to back up if you want to save the data :p)

edit: looking forward to the benchmarks :)

There's no personal data on this computer really. I'm just signed into my Microsoft account and have my account on here.. lol, kay, ya that's personal. But when reinstalling the OS, you NEED to sign in to a Microsoft Account to gain access to the operating system. So, that means Ill have to reinstall it when my cousin is here. Windows doesn't let you access the operating system without an account. If you don't have one, they'll usually make one for you. So, now what?

It's not like updating windows takes long. Like 15 minutes for the drivers and windows updates. I can do that while he is here. But I wanted to show him how Battlefield 4 runs so smoothly on this APU. Installing that takes like 4 hours.

Can you make a temp account? Is this a Win 8 thing?

If you haven't used it much maybe then it isnt worth a full wipe/reinstall.

Slipstreaming updates is generally good security but not an absolute must.

Windows comes with Windows defender and doesn't need any security because it's already built into the OS. And, I don't think that they can do a temporary account. After you put in the product key, they give you 2 options.

"Don't have one?" Then they create one for you. Can someone correct me? Anyway I can do a reinstall of the OS, takes like 20 minutes, and then another 15 minutes of getting drivers.

Can't you just create another user on the system for your friend and then remove yours? I'm assuming you are using a separate user account from Administrator?

I've never heard of this needing a microsoft account. Is this a win 8 thing?

Didn't need one on my Win 7 computers.

You can still create a regular account in Windows 8 instead of a Microsoft Account - it's called a Local Account.

Outch. I have 3 computers. What shall I get now? McAfee?? See a lot of enterprise computers use that...

Thats a real bummer. I would have hoped that Microsoft would have done something right with windows 8 that we wouldnt have to worry about. Apparently they don't have the simplicity motto like mac.

No I recommend going with avast free anti virus. Just download the free version and activate it.

AS nfs13epic said, Avast free every time (their Android security is pretty good too).
I'm about 95% Linux these days, so on the odd occasion I need to use Windows, both MS and Avast updates take a while.

Okay its concluded. I reinstalled the OS, reinstalled the drivers and Freddy paid me a generous $250 for building the computer. He loves it.
