Free AT&T microcell

I've been with AT&T for about 6 years now and have tolerated subpar service and numerous dropped calls in my house. The only reason I have stuck with them is because they are the only carrier with service where I work. I was planning on switching to verizon for the new droid x, but after explaining my frustrations to AT&T retentions dept they offered me a free microcell to try out. I had to buy it from a local store, but they credited my account for the price.
So far i am very impressed with it. My wife owns her own business that she runs from home, and uses around 3500 minutes per month, so the next couple weeks she will give it a very good workout, and I will update on here to let y'all know how it's going since there seems to be a lot of people complaining about the mcells.

If you have a Wifi capable phone, the Wifi time is suppose to be free, although with 3500/month, I would guess you are on a unlimited plan. But you might want to track your minutes for a few months and might be able to reduce your minutes if she always works from home.

The thing I REALLY don't like about these companies femtocells, unless you pay extra, it sucks down your bucket o' minutes. Well, it's traveling over broadband you ALREADY pay for... wtf?

I agree that it sucks how they try and nickel and dime you to death, using up your minutes. But she is already on an unlimited plan, so it's really just the principal of it that bothers me. At this point, we just want service that works in most places we are, no matter what we need to do.

So far, it hasn't dropped a call when handing your signal off to the tower as you leave the area, but it does get really garbled for a second. If that's the worst, we can live with it. We'll see what happens.

Update:
Mixed feelings about the M-cell at this point. Since having it installed, we have yet to have a dropped call, but have had a couple calls go straight to voicemail for no reason. Could be phone, could be the M-cell.
What definitely is the M-cell though is that there is still a medium rate of garbled-sounding/poor connection calls that have to be hung up and redialed.

So as of now, our service is better than it was without the M-cell, but might not be good enough to stick with permanently.
