This is a great way to easily backup and sync your phone! Never plug in, always be backed up!(Now available to Froyo!)

m:IQ takes your phone content and pushes it to a private account on the web. From then on, what you do on the phone will instantly update on the web, and what you do on the web will update on your phone. Here's some more info:

m:IQ

What I haven't been able to determine is what encryption is applied during data transfer and on their servers. I won't transfer my data in clear text, nor store it on anyone else's servers unless I, and only I, control the encryption key(s).
 
I've basically got that already. Photobucket app uploads my pics automatically. GMail syncs with their servers obviously. Contacts sync with GMail. I don't do text messaging. Unless it backs up apps, it's got nothing to offer me.
 
I used to use this with my HTC Touch Diamond windows phone. It was neat.

Now that I have an EVO, wonder what or if I was to update, would I lose all my old stuffs associated with the Windows phone or what??

@flu13 - There was an update last week to add manual mode for those worried about battery life. You can now control when the syncs occur!

@beano52 - If you would like to merge data with your current phone and old windows phone you can download the app and sign in under your user account which already exists. If you are looking to keep the data separate, you just need to create a new log in when you download on your Evo. (your old account will stay as it is, and you will have new account for the Evo) Enjoy!

What about encryption? Is the data encrypted as it is transferred to your servers and is it encrypted while it resides there? And who has the encryption keys?

m:IQ does have encryption, but given that it was built out as a consumer solution, we have not encrypted the entire stack (performance issues, prioritization conflicts, etc.). Just like Facebook and other sites though, we encrypt user credentials. Also, we have strict security standards in place, and regularly undergo security audits, threat assessments, and future security planning.
 
Woohoo! I have had this in the past but have been waiting for froyo. Loved it when I used it before. I never noticed a shortage in battery life. Easy to use, Great App!

Sorry, but without encryption on your servers, it doesn't matter how many audits you go through. It only takes one disgruntled employee to bypass all of your efforts. My data won't reside on someone else's servers unless it's encrypted end-to-end.

My big concern is whether it's encrypted during the transmission process. I don't want my contacts and e-mail being sent in plain text over the air regardless of how well encrypted it is on the other end. What parts of the process are encrypted and which one's are not?
 
I would rather use google voice (Text messages, call logs, voicemails) / my google account (Contacts, calendar, etc) / WebSharing (to copy photos, videos, and music over wifi). Bestbuy isn't someone I would run out and trust with important data, but that is a personal opinion.
