FREE Google Voice Minutes NOT Working?!

So normally I call Verizon with issues - but this is kind of sketchy since you are bypassing Verizon for free minutes.

Anyways, I have been using Google Voice to make a couple 1-800 calls (Microsoft and Newegg support) today and used Google Voice for both.

Just went onto my Verizon account and it is the first day of my new billing cycle. Well the meter is saying I have already used 32 minutes. The only calls I have made on the new cycle are Google Voice and the minutes are showing up under the 1-800 calls.

What am I doing wrong?! I'm verified and everything.

Oh crap, I'm reading some stuff and it looks like even though Google Voice calls the service "free", calls still go against your minutes.

Ugh I feel stupid. And angry.

Looks like I gotta bump my minutes back up to 900.

Don't feel bad... it happens to us all! Bottom line is that you were able to get your question answered quickly!

There used to be a way to get the GV outgoing number on your Friends & Family list, so all calls would be free. Now, the number is randomized for every call. You could always set up to Google Voice to work as a VOIP service; it would only use data then, but the service can be unreliable and low quality at times.

Read over this, and good luck. I will be testing this as well since I would really like to save some extra money.

In order for google voice to be free, you have to have a seperate gv phone number and that number has to be added to your friends and family list.

And it still works. I have no idea what the post above mine is talking about with the "random number" comment. It always calls through your google voice number... definitely not random.

I think the person meant that the access # keeps changing. That never happened with the older version of the app.
