Free Text Editor Programs?

Are there any free text editing programs? I'm an author, and a broke one at that, I like to write in my spare time. I found a decent one for my blackberry that worked pretty well, but since I've changed over to Android, I'm at a complete loss.

At the moment I am running XtrROM4.2 on my Droid HTC Eris. If anyone knows anything, please let me know because I would definitely appreciate it.

I like txtpad lite. It does what I need it to do.
