What I can't understand is why something that's intended to make a phone look pretty even need a privacy policy? What else is it doing in the background?

How is this "free" app monetized?

Yet more "free" spyware from Beijing. :thumbsdowndroid:

Hi, I actually disagree with you. I've found the Privacy Policy of APUS Launcher. And I think you can find it at http://static.themes.apusapps.com/theme/privacypolicy.html.

In my previous post, I quoted directly from the theme's policy in the google play store.

Its clear by using the theme you are agreeing to the policy, and hence you are agreeing to letting the theme spy on information about your phone and use that information for commercial gain.

@Editha I don't understand what you are disagreeing with @mikedt about.

Of course, it is worth pointing out, that the privacy policy we were talking about relates to this specific theme only...

In order to use it, you would also need to agree to the (looser) privacy policy of Apus Launcher

http://static.appbox.apuslauncher.com/upload/fe/privacypolicyen.html?v=2017

The combination of both of those, doesn't look like an appealing combination.

@Editha does the producer of the theme have any agreement/contract/financial relationship with Apus themselves? is information shared between yourselves and Apus in any way?

@Editha I don't understand what you are disagreeing with @mikedt about.

I guess the statement that it's "spyware", but as you helpfully pointed out, in the much broader APUS launcher privacy policy, it clearly needs permissions to search into a lot of personal data contained on your device.

APUS do not collect Personal Information, more detail you can check this web package:http://static.themes.apusapps.com/theme/privacypolicy.html.
The only way to make a profit for APUS is to implant user-friendly ads.

THAT ISN'T THE PRIVACY POLICY OF APUS LAUNCHER, Its the one attached to the people who make the theme. In the playstore the call themselves Flashteam? here they call themselves Apus-Themes Are they really part of APUS as well? or are they a separate entity?

If the theme and the launcher are both part of APUS why the separate names and Privacy policies?
Is this an attempt to make people think they are separate? is this an attempt to confuse the public?

. in the course of this discussion even you have been confused by this, and have quoted the wrong policy

APUS has thousands of themes, APUS couldn’t announce all the themes in one account, Flashteam is one of APUS theme accounts.
In Google play, every app need upload the privacy policy. A theme is an independent app; however every theme adapts a launcher. So this is normal that launcher and theme has different privacy policy.

In the interest of Honesty and transparency, could this be made clear in the google play store entry...

(also I still don't understand, if APUS launcher, and Apus Themes are made by APUS, why they don't share a common privacy policy... as its impossible to use the theme without the launcher, as you've demonstrated in this thread, even you get confused by this, and you work for APUS!)

The display page of APUS clearly show that the app has ads in Google play. Google ask every app need upload the privacy policy, APUS is trying that APUS theme can adapt all the launcher. Obviously, APUS launcher need more privacy compare to APUS themes. when you install APUS launcher, you can see the privacy policy. I think this is not contradictory, but can reflect the profession of APUS.

And as APUS representative Editha has chosen not to answer my questions,I'll leave it with the rest of the people reading this to make up their own minds about the honesty, transparency , integrity, professionalism and of APUS and the other company names that it hides behind.
