Freezing or Unresponsive screen issues?

Anybody having freezing/unresponsive screen issues?
I notice every once in a while the screen will freeze or be unresponsive and I have to hit the on/off button to get it to work again. I really don't like that. I've read where they had this problems with last years S6 & Note 5 phones, so you'd think they'd solve it by now. I might take this phone back before my 14 days are up if it keeps up. Never had it happen once with my Note 4.
 
Sorry to hear you are having issues. I have the S7 edge and haven't had any issues with the screen. Have you tried things such as restarting it?
Its possible you have a defective device and can bring it back to the store you bought it from.
 
So no one has any problems with the screen freezing or being unresponsive?
I've read where they had problems with that with the S6 phones.
 
Yes!! Actually, I'm using Nova Launcher on my new Galaxy S7 Edge. The launcher was working flawlessly, until yesterday. I got an OTA update from either Verizon or Samsung. A software update. I think it was supposed to fix some security issues. Well, since then, Nova launcher has been crashing. Everytime I try to add a widget, or try to tweak a launcher setting, it freezes and crashes. Every single time. I can't add any widgets. I suppose I could try to unistall/reinstall the launcher, but I don't want to have to set all my pages up again.
 
Everything was fine until 10 minutes ago... Screen freezed, then shot down. Was no way to wake up the phone until I plugged it into a wall. Seriously wondering what the hell might have happened. Maybe its the game I was playing which made it shut down?
 
I was browsing Facebook through the App and all of a sudden it froze. I tried to close all active apps, which worked and then the screen froze and then went black. Nothing worked to restart the device. I had to do a hard reset, holding down power button and volume down key for 7 seconds. I've had the phone from the first day and this is first time it has happened. Mind you, it's only been 2 weeks. I hope there are no other issues.
 
Welcome to the forum GillyGoodTimes! Hope you have no more issues. Bugs ya when it happens though. If it does it again, I'd take it back where you got it and see what they say. I've gone two days without my screen freezing so I hope that was a random thing too.
 
My phone froze whilst surfing Chrome. The phone would not shut down. Eventually I managed to kill it, probably by hitting volume down/home. But then - it was impossible to restart! Completly dead. I had to plug it in and wait a few minutes before battery indicator finally showed. It counted up from zero so phone probably thought it had zero battery ... (it had 97% in fact). Now what if I hadn't been near a charger? Do I need to carry one with me at all times? I wish Samsung hadn't integrated the battery before creating a killable phone. I might as well get an Apple ..
 
Still having some random freezes in different places off and on, not much, but enough to bug me. I'm going to take it down to where I got it before my 14 days are up and see if I can swap it for another S7 Edge. I was hoping not having to do it as it took me several days to load the apps I wanted, all my pics and different setting. Had it set up perfect... but:rolleyes:

Does Samsung have a longer warranty than the 14 day return I have to swap phones?

In the U.S.,it's Samsung's discretion to whether they repair or replace the device.
I'd get it to VZW (?) before the 14 day window closes,to ensure you get a new replacement device.........................
 
I'm taking mine back tomorrow, one day before my 14 days are up and swapping for a new one.
Doesn't seem like many here are having my issue, so I should be OK with a new phone.
I don't like the hassle of setting everything all up again, couple days work. & why I put off. taking it back. But it froze a couple times over the weekend, pushing the home or on/off button fixed it every time,but a new phone shouldn't be doing that.
 
Verizon just updated my phone this morning with an update that took 25 minutes... it was saying before I started it that it was fixing some issues with the S7/S7 Edge. Wonder if that will fix my problem?
 
Is today the last day to return it? If so, you've got a time crunch on your hands to decide. If it were me, I would just go ahead and return/exchange it.
 
Yeah, I wish this update came a few days ago so I could see if it fixes the problem or not.

I was told by the Samsung rep in Best Buy that Samsung typically tries to repair problem devices. Then replace if something is completely unfixable.

Yep, KOLIO and you are probably right and I'm not taking any chances update or not, I'm gonna return mine today for a new one as my 14 day window is up tomorrow.
 
this has happened to me quite a few times. i brought my s7 back to verizon within 14 days and the associate gave me a new device. this is still happening and is really irritating. i have already factory reset this second phone and now my 14 days are up. i dont know what to do!
 
From what i can see, Verizon seems to cause lots of issues with their rom's. It's not like it hasn't happened before with other models of smartphone either. I'd be very surprised if the issues you are facing are down to the hardware.

The Verizon guy at Costco's I talked to today didn't have any Edge phones and they were back ordered. He said what to do was take it to the main Verizon store in Tacoma where they have a technician on staff that will look at it and if he can't fix it, they will send it in to be fixed or for a new one... meanwhile they will give me a Edge to use. I can do this anytime in the first year as it has a year warranty. So my 14 days is up tomorrow, I will use this Edge a lot to see if I continue to have problems... so far I haven't so that software update Verizon today may have fixed it. I'll decide what to do tomorrow whether to give phone back and wait until they have some in stock or go the other route...

My screen froze today. This time it did not go entirely dead and a managed a restart - which took forever - up towards 90 seconds i would think. So the 45second self-reboot-mechanism was probably at play. It seems to be slow at restart too and fuzzing about the SD card - i wonder if that is the problem. If it happens againagain i will try to fly without SD card for a while. Approx. 2 weeks since last crash. Running Android 6.0.1.
 
I went to the largest Verizon store in a 35 mile radius today and asked them about the freezing issue.
I got the run-around. A first he said all the phones do that from time to time. I said, no my Note 4 never froze on me... ever! Then he said he was talking about the "newer" phones. Ya Right! Then he said it was probably one of my Apps doing it. I said those same apps didn't do it on my Note 4, then he went back to the "newer" phones doing it again. Finally I got him to admit the S7 phones were having that freezing issues... then he said have patience as there is an update coming soon that will address it. We will see:rolleyes:. If it doesn't I'm going to return this phone for a new one and if it continues to freeze, I'll get me the new Blackberry Priv that saw for the first time today... I should have gotten in the first place. I like that dual keyboard setup.That is one good looking phone too.
 
Anyone else having this freezing screen problem? Mine hasn't froze much lately, so I wonder if yesterdays update helped? Time will tell.
