Frequently turning on/off wifi and mobile data will damage the phone?

Hi, just got my first smartphone a week ago. A completely newbie to Android. Not sure if here is the right place to ask this question, although it does sound a bit stupid... :o

I usually keep my wifi or mobile data off and only switch them on when I want to access network, to save battery. So that means I would be switching the wifi or mobile data on and off a few times every day. Just wondering if doing so will cause any damage to the system or phone hardware??

Thanks!

Nope, won't do a problem. I have an app that toggles the mobile data on for 2min then off again for 15min. I've been using it on my Galaxy S for 2 years and my current S3mini for the past 4months and no problems whatsoever.

Thanks! But why would you want to toggle mobile data like that?

I have an unlimited mobile data connection (true unlimited. I could get 30GB a month and get billed same as if I use up 1GB). So instead of having data always on, I have it automatically to check if I have notifications every 15min.

It saves me like 7hrs more battery than just leaving it on.

It won't be a problem, I turn data on/off at least 10-15 times a day and never had issues.

How often do you charge your battery? I charge my Note 2 every two days on average. Do you only charge your battery when it drops to below 20%?

Welcome, femmycats, to AF!:)

Like others here have stated, I also toggle my wifi on and off several times daily with no issues at all.
As for charging my phone, I keep it on the charger at home, and unplug it when I leave home. I have also never had any issues with charging it, no matter the percentage of battery left.

I turn mine on and off the way you do. No problem. If you're going to be doing it often you'll want widgets on your home screen so you aren't digging in the settings every time. The stock power control widget can handle your wifi for you but doesn't have a button for mobile data. I use this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.datalinkswitch

To add the stock power control widget to your home screen, long-press a blank space, choose "Widgets", then find "Power Control". In addition to WiFi it lets you disable/enable Bluetooth, GPS, auto-sync (where apps query the internet for data, such as new mail), all with one tap, and adjust brightness with 1 or 2 taps.

If you don't have a connection, having the phone search will eventually kill the battery.
I had a Verizon phone get extremely hot crossing the Navajo Rez. V didn't have service then, and I forgot to turn the phone off.

Your phone can do the same offroading in some areas. Get down into a canyon, and no service. You might as well save your battery so the phone isn't dead when you do get a signal.

Almost - airplane mode also stops calls and SMS ;)

(I do turn WiFi and data off to save power when I know I don't need a data connection, but still want to use it as a phone).

good point... I've never once toggled Airplane Mode.... I just keep both DATA and WiFi turned off unless I need the internet... SMS and talking constitute the majority of my use when at home.... then on the m/c I use the GPS and the camera a lot... still no need for internet unless my m/c thinks my tummy needs a refill and then I have to search for the nearest Dairy Queen for a refill... (that is a Goldwing joke... we always ride for food) :p

I have ridden 350 miles one way just to meet a group of folks at a nice restaurant.... enjoy their company for a couple hours, and then ride back home. makes for a full day, but oh what fun, and it gets me away from the worries of the War Zone around here..... the druggies are trying to overtake our local towns... we have even more bad events here than Chicago now... not a fact we enjoy.
