sure would be cool to have a Front End app for use while the phone is in a car dock/ windshield mount. The Droidx has a very limited app that provides large buttons to touch for various applications but you can only apply one custom app to the application.
When I built my carputer, there were several Front Ends that controlled numerous programs and allowed the user to specify which programs they wanted to access easily while driving. Music, GPS, Phone, Email...
