Froyo fo yo EVO?

As work on finalizing the software is under way, Sprint expects to launch Android 2.2 in the near future.

Sorry for any confusion created when we initially made this announcement. HTC EVO 4G will receive the 2.2 update, Samsung Moment and HTC Hero will not. Future devices launching with 2.1 also will be updated to 2.2

With the Android 2.2 upgrade, customers can expect improvements to include the following benefits: updates to user interface, improved EAS Support, improved browser performance, including Flash 10x Support, voice dialing over Bluetooth and application storage on external memory.
Announcements: Sprint expects to launch Android 2.2 in near future

Well the term "Near future" is vague, but at least it's news direct from Sprint. I really like 2.1 and if 2.2 lives up to the hype the EVO will only get better.

Does anyone have previous experience with Sprint announcements? do they normallyy follow a pretty standard timeline?

Standard? That depends:

  1. Standard as in "three months"? No!
  2. Standard as in "by the end of the year"? Possible, but unlikely.
  3. Standard as in "in my lifetime"? This is all you can expect. But don't even count on this one...
  4. Standard as in "Standard time between ice ages"? This is their only STANDARD that can be assured.

Sorry if you expected a better assurance. HTC is slow, Sprint wants their bloatware and we get 'it' in the end...

I hope it's sooner than later. Even though I'm not super excited about any given feature, the anticipation on these forums is contagious ;)

OK. If "standard" is more than three months, I'll root and flash a Froyo-based ROM. But I need to wait until they break the latest OTA plug for root (dummy me updated without researching that it would plug the root access). With the developers working on it, a new root method will come before Sprint gets Froyo out.
