Ok ive been thinking about something for a while now and i just wanted to bring it to the table.

Ok with the advent of froyo you will eliminate alot of fragmentation. the problem is will all the phones out to date be able to support froyo. we have phones that are fairly old like the g1.

froyo has full flash support and it does take quite a bit of power. im wondering if the phones that cannot support flash will be able to update to froyo 2.2

maybe thats why google said all phones released to this date will get 2.1 and that would be the cutoff point.

meaning thats how they solve alot of the fragmentation. aka old phones will not support froyo
mytouch 3g hero eris g1 and all the likes.

I would not be surprised if we didn't even get a 2.1 update.

They need to have a hard cutoff for OS updates of older/ low end phones.

I own a Samsung Galaxy, and we probably never will get anything more than 1.6

I believe that, starting with the phones that will get the froyo update, the fragmentation will stop. On the long term (couple years), it will work, but I highly doubt that all the current phones will be a part of that.
